Holster-Draw Practice

This special event focuses on experienced handgun owners who want reps drawing to first shot with strict safety oversight.

Location: Deer Creek

Duration: 2 hours

Time: 3pm – 5pm

Date: June 2, 2024

Prerequisites

  • Prior handgun safety/intro class or equivalent experience.
  • Age 18+ (contact us for exceptions).
  • Range qualification may be required at check-in.

Logistics

  • Check-in: 15 minutes early to sign waiver and gear-up.
  • Weather: runs rain or shine under covered lanes; severe weather may reschedule.

Required Gear

  • Handgun (semi-auto or revolver) in good working order.
  • Holster: rigid OWB, strong-side (3–4 o’clock), fully covers trigger guard.
  • Not allowed: cross-draw, shoulder, small-of-back, purse/pack carry; no trigger-finger-release holsters.
  • Sturdy belt; 2–3 magazines (or speedloaders) + mag pouch.
  • 150–200 rounds of factory ammo.
  • Eye/ear protection; closed-toe shoes; high-neck shirt.

What You’ll Do

  1. Safety Brief & Gear Check (10 min) – cold-range rules, safe holstering/unholstering, muzzle/trigger discipline.

  2. Dry-Practice Draws (20 min) – stance, garment clear, master grip, presentation, sights, press, controlled re-holster.

  3. Live-Fire Fundamentals (30 min) – 1-shot draws at 3–5–7 yds to an 8″ zone; cadence and follow-through.

  4. Efficiency Blocks (30 min) – 2-shot draws, failure-to-stop, slide-lock reload integration.

  5. Optional Concealment Block (15 min) – add cover garment if approved by instructor.

  6. Standards & Debrief (15 min) – simple timed runs (e.g., draw-to-1 at 5 yds), coaching notes, next steps.
